Why
Finland?
I have
been travelling in Scandinavia since my childhood. I just love the nature,
large woods, wild mountain areas up here. During my studies in Biology I got
also interested in the Northern nature in a scientific sense. During the summer
of 1999 I had the great possibility to work at the Swedish mountain research
station Latnjanaure. We lived in small lodges far away from civilisation.
That was a special experience!
In the
following year I went to Rovaniemi (Finland) as an exchange student participating
in the "Arctic Studies Program". During that program we learned
a lot about various aspects of Northern regions and went on two interesting
excursions. During the long summer holidays of 2001, I went to Svalbard to
work there as a guide. After all those experiences in the North I did not
want to return to Germany ...
